ACEH TAMIANG — The dynamics ahead of the election for the Chairperson of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) in Aceh Tamiang are increasingly drawing public attention. The emergence of a figure from the press organization community as a candidate for KONI chairperson has sparked discussions about leadership, capacity, and the future direction of sports development in the region.
Amid the growing dynamics, the election process is expected to be conducted transparently, objectively, and fairly, without creating the perception that the process is being engineered to serve certain interests.
Political observer Misdi said that a candidate’s background in a press organization should not be an issue as long as the candidate possesses the necessary capacity, organizational vision, integrity, and commitment to advancing sports in Aceh Tamiang.
According to Misdi, experience in leading a press organization can serve as an asset in building communication networks and institutional relationships. However, he stressed that the selection of KONI chairperson should ultimately be determined through the organization’s established mechanisms and an objective assessment of each candidate’s proposed programs.
“The election process should not become merely a battle between competing groups. If a candidate has the ability and a clear program, let the participating organizations assess the candidate objectively. The votes of sports organizations should not be directed through pressure or a predetermined scenario,” Misdi said.
Misdi emphasized that transparency is essential to ensure that the election results have strong legitimacy. Every stage of the process—from candidate requirements and organizational endorsements to the voting procedure—should be carried out in accordance with the applicable rules.
He believes that a transparent process would make it easier for whoever is elected to gain the trust of sports organizations and carry out the KONI leadership mandate while working to improve sports achievements in Aceh Tamiang.
Meanwhile, Hendriko Lubis, Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Joint Secretariat (SWI) in Aceh Tamiang, stressed that the integrity and dignity of the sports organization should not be sacrificed for short-term interests.
According to Hendriko, anyone seeking the position of KONI chairperson must be prepared to have their ideas, programs, leadership capabilities, and commitment to developing all sports disciplines fairly and sustainably evaluated.
“If I am entrusted with or considered as a candidate, I am ready to follow the established mechanism. There is no need for manipulation, pressure, or behind-the-scenes games. Let sports organizations freely determine their choice in accordance with the rules. What we are looking for is not merely a chairperson, but a leader capable of making KONI work for athletes, coaches, and the advancement of sports in Aceh Tamiang,” Hendriko said firmly.
Public attention is now focused on how the KONI election process will unfold. The leadership contest should serve as a platform for competing ideas and programs, rather than an arena where the outcome is predetermined before the process takes place.
Transparency, sportsmanship, and respect for the voices of sports organizations are crucial foundations for ensuring that whoever is eventually elected has a strong mandate to lead KONI Aceh Tamiang professionally and pursue achievements that can bring pride to the region.
